End Your Family Estrangement: 2 Powerful Words That Can Bring Your Prodigal Back
Is your heart longing for the return of a prodigal child?
Have you been praying for an adult prodigal child, but not seeing their hearts soften yet? Sister, do not be discouraged; God is still on the throne. I want to talk to you about 2 words that can bring your prodigal child back to the Truth.
I know what it’s like to feel as though you got punched in the gut, when your child tells you that they do not believe in Jesus. I also know what it feels like to have your adult child choose to estrange from you.
After you recover a little from the surprise, hurt and anger of the situation, then what? As Christians, we take it to God in prayer. For some people, their prodigal child might return pretty quickly. For others, you may have been praying for years and still have a prodigal child who has turned from God, from you, or both.
It can feel isolating to love your prodigal but not be in good relationship with them. And if your prayers have not yet produced the fruit of change that you can see, you might feel discouraged. Maybe you wonder if your prodigal will ever again be who you once knew them to be.
I want to share 2 words with you that can turn it around and bring your prodigal back. Those 2 words are: even now.
I initially heard Karen Wheaton speak about the power of the words “even now”, and you can listen to her teach about it by going here and watching the Even Now video. It’s so very good. If you’re like me and you love to listen to someone who seems so real and full of passion for Jesus, I think you will like Karen a lot. I love her way of showing up. I think she is an amazing lady.
When we’re faced with a hard situation, the devil tries to get in our ears and tell us the situation is hopeless. He tries to convince us that if something was going to shift it would have already happened by now, and that at this point, it’s just too late.
But the devil is a liar. He is the author of confusion, and it is a confused mind that believes it’s too late for God to bring a prodigal back.
In the Bible (you can read this for yourself in John 11), Mary and Martha sent for Jesus when Lazarus was sick. Jesus waited 2 days before he went to Mary, Martha and Lazarus. He did not wait because He lacked any love for them. In John 11:5 it says: Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.
Listen, if the devil is trying to tell you that Jesus does not care about your sorrow, your pain… if the enemy is telling you that Jesus has not brought your prodigal back because He does not love you, DO NOT BELIEVE THAT LIE. Martha and Mary might have thought the same thing. But guess what - Jesus was on His way.
When He was close approaching, Lazarus had already died. His body had been taken out of the house, and it looked like it was over. I’m sure the devil told Mary and Martha it was too late.
As Jesus came closer, Mary did not run to meet Him. She stayed in the house, but Martha went to meet Jesus as He approached the scene.
Martha expressed to Jesus that if He had been there, Lazarus would not have died. Perhaps Martha felt confused about why Jesus hadn’t come sooner. Maybe she was hurt. Maybe she felt as if she had been abandoned, even.
But then, Martha spoke the 2 words that can bring your prodigal back. She told Jesus that EVEN NOW whatever He would ask of God, that God would give it to Him.
In the very next verse (which is John 11:23), Jesus replied to Martha and said… Thy brother shall rise again.
Glory to God!
I believe Jesus waited those 2 days before He went to where Lazarus was, so that Martha’s great faith would be an example of the power of Jesus and the reward of faith, for generations to come. Even to you, right now.
When Jesus called Lazarus forth out of the tomb, he came out and he lived.
Your prodigal is loved by Jesus. And so are you. There is NOTHING that Jesus does not have authority over. There is NOTHING He cannot do.
When you are praying for your prodigal, Jesus might be waiting like He did with Lazarus, but He will not ever be late. Even now… He can break chains of addictions.
Even now… He can remove veils of deception.
Even now… He can repair broken family bonds and break generational strongholds.
Even now… The heart of your prodigal can be softened.
Even now… your prayers matter.
I want you to get a pen, or a marker, and on a piece of paper. Write the words EVEN NOW. Put that paper someplace where you’ll see it every day. The next time the devil tries to discourage your heart, and tell you it’s too late, tell him NO. EVEN NOW my Lord can bring my prodigal back.
Okay, friend. That’s what I have for you this time, and I hope it blesses you.
